I find the following words of researcher, anthropologist, author, Terence McKenna's to be very true, and this is a recurring theme in the writings here at Modern Art Quotes. It is the role of the artist to reconnect the pipeline back to our unconscious, in ways that some religious institutions fail to do.
"We have wandered into a state of prolonged neurosis because of the absence of a direct pipeline to the unconscious and we have then fallen victim to priestcraft of every conceivable sort. "
-Terence Mckenna
Dogmatic religions seperate us from the real, vibrant, immediate spirituality that is us and around us at all times. A quote from Jimi Hendrix further illustrates this point. Terence Mckenna (1946 - 2000) was a great thinker, anthropologist, ethnobotanist, and philosopher amongst other things. Part of his work involved bringing shamanic elements into popular culture of the west, in an effort to shift the consciousness of the planet towards a more holistic and balanced ecological ideal. Check out his books here: Terence McKenna's books in print.
