My thoughts on the following quote from Max Eastman: AMEN! It reminds me of that Tool Song: Parabola.
"The defining function of the artist is to cherish consciousness."

All the different stages of the creative process reveal what it is to cherish consciousness; the true artist can be viewed more like a shaman than some stuffy gallery owner, or highfalutin art snob. I appreciate the kind of tradition breaking shock art of the Dada movement and their work was so necessary, but personally I prefer art that strives to honestly express the soul.
