"You must keep sending work out; you must never let a manuscript do nothing but eat its head off in a drawer. You send that work out again and again, while you're working on another one. If you have talent, you will receive some measure of success - but only if you persist."
-Isaac Asimov
A successful artist (I'm not what you necessarily call successful, but anyways) must be relentless in pushing one's work. (By the way visit my gallery Ed's Art Workshop). Of course what Asimov says here is true; 'If you have talent, you will receive some measure of success - but only if you persist.' In other words - do the work, share it, keep doing the work, put it out there again, repeat. I think it's crucial that any writer, artist, musician understand this. (That's why I find this quote inspiring, something for me to strive towards).
Of course there are millions if not billions of talented people out there in the world. One thing that separates us is the amount of work you put into getting your work out in the world. I know I have a seemingly endless amount of pictures to finish, varnish, stretch, frame and eventually maybe put into an actual show. Marketing my work has never been one of my strong suits. My work starting in high-school garnered attention from teachers, classmates, and viewers any time it had even limited exposure. That's why I am convinced when I actually finish more work and present it, it will get at least some measure of success. If I didn't honestly believe that I wouldn't draw or paint.
So, I am just saying; that I believe Asimov's words to be true. If you are talented in something and are ruthlessly persistent in sharing your work as much as possible, success of some kind will come to you. Whether that be fulfillment from viewers liking and appreciating the work, and/or financial freedom to do the work.
