George Bernard Shaw Quote on Fighting

I usually don't get too personal on this blog, but today I am going to be. So, just now I was looking for something to make me feel better about something that happened to me yesterday. I got in a minor verbal confrontation with my neighbor, (well not really my neighbor since he admitted to not really living there several months ago, but has been there every day since). Him and 4 other people (at least 3 of which are flopping in their apartment) were playing 'ball' in front of our building, right next to our car. This is not the first time that the car had been almost hit several times. (Who plays ball in an apartment complex parking lot with cars around?) I stepped out onto my balcony and asked them not to play in front of our car (like they're 12 or something - right?) That's when I got into a verbal exchange with the guy mentioned above. Not really a big deal, but it just struck me that this guy was so ready to be an ass. Like he was acting stupid, just so I would say something to him. Anyways, I found the thing that made me feel a little better, this quote:

I learned long ago, never to wrestle with a pig, you get dirty; and besides, the pig likes it.

-George Bernard Shaw

It totally matches the situation I was describing. That was not the first time I exchanged words with the sarcastic pig that is my not really neighbor. But the words from Shaw are so true, and do make me feel better. I could of been a lot more diplomatic in my handling of the situation. But people acting so utterly stupid, with such a blatant disregard for our property just struck me as so idiotic that I did fight with the pig and get dirty. Lesson - If you want to confront someone, don't do it in haste, take a moment, breath and proceed with diplomacy. Anyways that's my story of the day.
