The Nelson Atkins and The Bloch Building

This past weekend I visited the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art, here in Kansas City, Missouri. I went there to see the new Bloch building. Well it's been here for almost couple years now but I'm just now getting around to actually seeing it. I was extremely impressed. The original building of course has this great, grand, Roman-style architecture, and in stark contrast is the Bloch building with its white glass exterior.

Depending on your angle, the Bloch building (by Steven Holl) from the outside looks amazing and sometimes surreal even, very fitting for a modern art building. Inside it has some really amazing curves and angles all around you, wherever you go; in the hallways, galleries, and ceiling which makes for a very interesting and aesthetic experience. You can't really tell that from the outside, but that's what makes it even more interesting. The contrast between the two buildings, classic and modern is very obvious and very cool if you ask me, even in the way that they connect inside. This inhabitat Article: Bloch Building by Steven Holl has some really great views of the building.

I wish I could appreciate art and architecture much more, but unless there it has something to do with food, I just stand back and think something to the likes of "Gee, that's a pretty awesome building!" Shame on me, considering the country that I now live in!

Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment!

I'm not a huge architecture aficionado, I've just always liked the Nelson Atkins and now the Bloch building! .... thanks for stopping by Rowena.
