Sun, Man, and Crow, A Drawing by Ed Tajchman

One thing I love about my blog vs. an online gallery (I do have one link is in the right column) is that here, I not only get to share my art, but I get to talk about the creative process in more detail. I sometimes share my art at my more personal informal blog: Ed's Thoughts on Life, Art, and the Universe; but I am sharing this one here, you lucky readers. (I have quite a large ego, you know, and make sure to check that blog for some more recently published work of mine.)

This is a small (9x12") drawing I did last month. For a long time I did almost purely non-objective abstract watercolor and acrylic painting. Only recently, (this past year) have I really come back to drawing from life or even using recognizable images at all. I like the abstract quality in this more objective work, something I didn't have before I painted only abstract for years.

As far as this piece is concerned; I always liked blue and orange together and the symbols in the drawing? - well I have a visual library of images that I use and repeat in these kind of works. Almost like symbolism with a definite abstract quality. The sketchy part on the right started has a frustrated scribble when I thought I was going to abandon (not finish the drawing). I stuck with it thought and liked how the texture of that part turned out. There is no hidden agenda with my work, but that's not to say of course, that it doesn't mean something. Tell me what do you see?
