This isn't exactly art related, but this is my site so I am going to talk about one of my favorite time-wasting past-times. Soccer and football nuts should all try TrophyManager. Also if you like strategy and sports management games you will like it. (Click above to sign up) It is a free to play massively multiplayer online football management Browser-based game. Manage your own football (soccer) team, name your team, your stadium etc. Players will be given virtual cash and can be used to buy free agents, expand your stadium, set your lineup, buy and sell players, develop your youth squad, and much more. It has a huge international community with lots of fun people to interact with. It is by far the best free fantasy sports soccer management game online, a faster paced version of Hattrick, if you've played that game. If you have any questions email me in-game (my team is the KC Coyotes).

Drip Painting and Graffiti Making Toys
I can't help it, this is one of the funnest drawing tools/toys that I have found so far on the net. Make your own Jackson Pollock below, or play with the full screen version at JacksonPollack.org. For a more serious inquiry into Pollack's work check out Jackson Pollock Unauthorized.
Click Below To Start 'Painting'
“Abstract painting is abstract. It confronts you. There was a reviewer a while back who wrote that my pictures didn't have any beginning or any end. He didn't mean it as a compliment, but it was.”
-Jackson Pollock
Check out this cool little design toy (below the image); I made the picture below with it. (If you need a good free screenshot-saving program, check out ScreenPrint32.) It reminds me of the work of Keith Haring (1958 - 1990). His work can be described as a modern version of ancient symbols; using line, color, and repeating images to convey a kind of universal language.
If you find Haring's work as interesting as I do or if you just want to know more, read this article about Haring and his neo-expressionist, New York, 1980's cohorts: "New York Expression: Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Kenny Scharf, David Salle, George Condo, Donald Baechler " . The article is a small insight into one of my favorite art genre's of all time. Also visit the Keith Haring Foundation charity.

"My contribution to the world is my ability to draw. I will draw as much as I can for as many people as I can for as long as I can. Drawing is still basically the same as it has been since prehistoric times. It brings together man and the world. It lives through magic."-Keith Haring

Art Games Spotlight: flOw, Coactive, and Orisinal
Welcome once again to Art Games Spotlight here at Modern Art Quotes. Days of scouring the web (and hours of play) searching for the most creative, ingenious, abstract, free and fun games resulted in the following three entries: (Click on the title of the game to go to the website and play.)
Have fun recharging your creative juices by playing these great games, (I did). Especially the first game flOw, what a wierd experience that game is, a very fun wierd experience. Let me leave you with a quote from Irish painter Francis Bacon about art as a game:
1. flOw, by thatgamecompany: An awesomely cool game where you start as a small organism in a layered sea of sorts. You can travel up and down through the depths of the layers, eating smaller matter and other organisms, evolving or getting eaten all the while. I could play this game for hours endlessly, the deceptively simple game-play is very fun and very addicting; Almost soothing in a primordial kind of way. Very easy and very fun with endless replay value. Play the pc version of flOw by clicking on the link above.
2. Coactive, by Danny Adler: This is an interactive music/art game. A very cool and hypnotizing experience; you use interactive shapes of various design that each correspond with a sound element, to create music and art. Start and stop these shaped musical options, mix and match various layers of sound. Fascinating and meditative, keep going with it for a minute to really get the feel, and you'll lose an hour or two.
3. Orisinal games, by Ferry Halim: These games are short and sweet, but very well designed. Easy, fun and with good art, you'll have fun exploring the 60 plus games from this talented designer.

"You see, painting has now become, or all art has now become completely a game, by which man distracts himself. What is fascinating actually is, that it's going to become much more difficult for the artist, because he must really deepen the game to become any good at all."

Art Games Spotlight: Magic Pen
Hey readers, this is the first post in a new feature I call Art Games Spotlight. Free fun and easy games that are art related, or that artists of all ages would enjoy. Check out this game called Magic Pen. It's an insanely fun little game that I thought you artists out there would enjoy. Your goal is to use a magic pan to draw objects that move a red ball towards the flag. You can hinge the shapes that you draw to create moving levers, circles fall like boulders if you make one, etc. It's really an amazing and ingenious little game. Definitely worth checking out and playing.
Magic Pen Collect the flags with the red ball to complete each level. |
