I really like this one (above) It's a giant blue bear sculpture looking into a building. Big sculptures that give the landscape a surreal feeling always appeal to me.
The badminton darts on the lawn of the Nelson Atkins Museum (left) Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen) in Kansas City is another well-done example of this. (It's like you stumbled onto the lawn of a giant). The orange ribbons thing in NY's Central Park though? (Orange Central Park gates, by Christo and Jeanne-Claude, 2005) I don't get it, there didn't seem to be a theme to it other than well, orange banners; really a laborious process with not much surrealistic affect if you ask me.

Love the giant bear...looks like he's about to punch his way through the window...and glowing purple towers...never seen any of those, but they fit with Colorado, a place which, in my mind, may also be to some degree tied to all the psychedelic experiences I had there (note to any kids reading: of course by that I mean listening to some of that groovy psychedelic music. Be cool, stay in school. Don't do drugs."
Yeah, I agree, I love the giant bear and I agree that there is something about giant sculptures that make them seem so surreal. One here in England that I remember seeing was a giant wooden chair just sitting on a hillside. From a distance it really played with scale and perspective.
Nice post :-)
Thanks Jay and Susannah, I will try to find that giant chair online!
I think this may be it -

very cool, that's where the giant sits after playing badminton on the lawn of the Nelson (see post above lol)

nice! thanks for this post. its really nice!
Giant chair concept was pretty cool! Thanks for the post :)
Love the bear! Took a tour last month with Billy Bango and learned that the bear was supposed to be black and that the blue was just the primer - but...everyone liked the blue so much they left it.
